Est. 2020 – Amidst a pandemic!

by DoItUp, July 12, 2021

Growing up, home has always been my happy place, my mother who is an interior enthusiast always ensured that every nook and corner of our home was perfect which subconsciously instilled a love for aesthetics in me as well. So when it was my turn to turn this passion into a profession, making homes a happy place for others was my ultimate goal. And never did we realize the prominence of staying indoors, comfortable homes, celebrating moments with your loved ones as we did in 2020.. And so being able to create spaces that can make way for these memories is everything that Do It Up started with..

Like most people I began this journey on a completely different note in March 2020, I’d just finished my short entrepreneurship course at SP Jain and was ready to step out and give my dream a shot – a design firm with a vision to revamp homes one space at a time. What I didn’t prepare for was a pandemic and things halted before they even began!

Being an architect, space planning and aesthetics was a domain I wanted to start with and so Do It Up had only one vision at first – Home makeovers! It stemmed from personal experiences of not being able to give home renovations the time, effort and money it takes. I wanted to offer people a chance to convert their Pinterest dreams into a reality with respect to their homes. Obviously, COVID had other plans and what was supposed to be a design consultancy firm, started as a blog with DIY ideas to make homes a happier place while everyone stayed indoors and dealt with a worldwide pandemic outside.

The blog got some traction through April till July and as things started opening up again, to my surprise I received unexpected requests from some of the followers to come and set up their homes for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. Funnily, I rejected some of those initial requests and offered only permanent styling/makeover solutions. But it all changed when I accepted influencer Juhi Godambe’s request for a setup for her mum and fiancé’s birthday. The response I received post this event, was so overwhelming but that’s it hit me how the pandemic had entirely changed peoples’ perception on celebrations, especially indoors. That’s when Do It Up Event Décor began..

The important bit was to understand the gap between what I thought people needed vs what they actually wanted, so to turn around my vision was necessary at the time but with no experience in this field, the everyday challenges that came about were absolutely not what I anticipated. From deciding the scale of events, décor styles, purchasing inventory to execution and logistics, every bit was a learning experience that I took on one day at a time. But what kept me going was my the feedback at the end of the day, making it all worth it. Being a part of someone’s special day is a feeling I cherish every single day!

With immense love and support from my family, friends and clients, I kept going and soon Do It Up became a team of 10 people in just 4 months with over 100 happy clients and special days! After a year into this, while Do It Up still has a long way to go in the field of design and décor, the last one year through this pandemic has been an experience I will always be grateful for. Do It Up will continue to stand for what it started with – to make homes a happier place, only now it won’t be limited to just that but also making every day special, one occasion or space at a time!
